Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (Haags Gemeentemuseum)
The Gemeentemuseum (municipal museum) owns an extensive
collections of modern art, the applied arts,
fashion and music. The modern art collection provides
an overview of developments in the fine arts
since the early 19th century.
Modern art
The collection include works by leading foreign artists,
including Picasso and Monet, plus an extensive collection of German Expressionist pieces.
This helps to place Dutch examples of the Realist and Symbolist schools.
The collection traces the story of modern art through to today.
Fashion
The museum possesses one of the world's largest collections of fashion items.
It includes both historical costumes and contemporary designs,
all displayed in the special fashion gallery. Exhibitions focus
not just on changing fashions in the Netherlands,
but also on landmark designs from abroad.
Applied arts
The museum possesses a collection of silverware, Delft pottery, porcelain,
furniture, several complete room interiors.
